Quality and compliance
What we check in the factory, and the US rules your project may need to meet.
Every Salon & Steel order is checked in our factory for dimensions, mechanism function, upholstery and finish before packing. For US projects, the rules buyers most often ask about are upholstered seating flammability, California Proposition 65, electrical listing for pedicure spas and electric beds, plumbing code, and state board sanitation rules for pedicure equipment.
Factory checkpoints
| Stage | What is checked |
|---|---|
| Incoming materials | Steel tube gauge, foam density, upholstery cover weight and color against the approved swatch |

| Upholstery | Seam straightness, stitch density, tension and panel alignment |
| Plumbed units | Faucet, sprayer and drain fittings present and leak-tested where applicable |
| Packing | Corner protection, film wrap, carton strength, pallet or crate fixing, shipping marks |
US rules buyers ask about
Upholstery flammability
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission adopted California TB117-2013 as the federal flammability standard for upholstered furniture, with a required compliance label.
Proposition 65
California requires warnings for products that expose people to listed chemicals. Material declarations help you decide whether a warning applies.
Electrical listing
Inspectors commonly expect pedicure spas and electric beds to carry a mark from a recognized testing laboratory and to run on a dedicated GFCI-protected circuit.
Plumbing
Shampoo units and plumbed spas are connected by a licensed plumber with backflow prevention and traps as your local code requires.
Pedicure sanitation
State boards set cleaning rules. California rule 16 CCR 980.2, for example, sets cleaning and disinfection steps and a log for pipeless spas.
Accessibility
The 2010 ADA Standards require at least 5 percent of work surfaces and seating, and no fewer than one, to be accessible.
Compliance questions
Rules differ by state and city. We supply specifications and material information; your contractor and inspector confirm local requirements.
Are your pedicure spas and electric beds UL or ETL listed?
Electrical items are built for 110 to 120 V, 60 Hz US power. Listing status (UL, ETL or other NRTL marks) depends on the model and is confirmed in writing in your quotation. Ask us before ordering if your inspector requires a specific listing.
Does the upholstery meet TB117-2013?
Upholstered seating sold in the US must meet the federal flammability standard based on California TB117-2013 and carry the required label. Tell us your requirement and we confirm the foam and cover materials and labeling for your order.
Will my products need a Prop 65 warning?
Products sold in California may need a Proposition 65 warning depending on materials such as certain vinyl plasticizers. We confirm material declarations per order so you can decide on labeling.
Who installs plumbing and electrical items?
Shampoo units and plumbed pedicure spas must be connected by a licensed plumber, and electrical items by a licensed electrician, following local code and the installation guide we supply.
